I'm pleased to note that my sewing project for 2011 came to a close and I did complete even more than 12 different projects. Funny thing, though, is that I still have the main two sewing projects waiting to be started that inspired me to even have such a challenge. Maybe by 2015? The more I sew (or attempt to) the more I really really enjoy it. I just wish I had more time or knew a little more. Oh well, maybe there will be a sewing corner in the Eternities?
For a simple handmade gift this year I chose hot pads because they are a good way to use up leftover fabric. Bias tape was on my list of things to learn and so it gave me the perfect opportunity to do so. It was actually quite simple and now I want to add a little bias tape to everything. I think I will make some more for myself.
I've been wanting to make this apron forever from here and finally did it. However, when I purchased the fabric I didn't realize the entire apron was lined and so I decided to make it reversible as not to waste the cute fabric. I want to make this one again because the pattern piece for the ruffle was not the correct size to gather the way it should so the next time I will just extend it. I only wished I would have known but it turned out cute anyway and I finished it on Christmas eve at 12:30am. And I gave it to my mom.
{Santa} decided to build some beds for the American Girl Dolls floating around our house. I think he felt bad that they had nowhere to sleep. {Mrs. Claus} dusted off her machine along side the jolly man and whipped up some cute bedding for each. Thanks to the tutorials from Ana White (whom I adore and found on pinterest) Santa was able to do them quickly And this is where I make a small plug for Pinterest because I'm seriously in love with the site and wonder how I would survive without it. Do you pin Well you should!
I LOVE everything about this bed. Ava was super excited when she awoke on Christmas morning but she is quite certain that I made the bedding and Jake made the bed. She even told me that she thinks I'm Santa's helper. The random fabric choices in the quilt ended up created the perfect ensemble for a farmhouse bed. I love the stain vs paint as well.
Ellie got the bunk bed version for her two dolls and while it's hard to tell in pictures, both beds are huge. The best part is that I believe {Santa} spent about $20 on materials. Pure Awesomeness!
What a fun way to end the year. And when I'm old and wrinkly, I have proof to my children that I did, in fact, sew and it wasn't always a lost skill.

Super CUTE stuff!!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed, this is something I want to learn. I can barely do the basics when it comes to sewing. I love the cute bunk beds!
ReplyDeletehave I mentioned to you today that I think you are so rad? What special kids you have to get such thoughtful and individual presents. Tell Ava, I doubt the Duger's get anything like that for Christmas. And if they do, it's denim dresses with fluffy sleeves.
ReplyDeleteWhen I'm in a mood to sew, now I know where to go. =) You are amazing.
this is ashley, not richard. sorry.
